The Odisha government on Saturday allowed home delivery of liquor from May 24 (Sunday) and introduced a 50 per cent special ‘Covid fee’ on all types of foreign liquor and beer. With the added 50 per cent ‘Covid fee’, the liquor products and alcoholic beverages would be sold at a higher price.
The additional fee will be applicable to MRPs of 2019-20 fiscal. Normal timing for home delivery would be between 7 am and 6 pm.
Following the amendment of the relevant provisions under the Odisha Excise Rules, 2017, the existing ON and OFF shop licensees situated in areas other than containment zones and shopping malls will be allowed to make home delivery from Sunday.
However, no excise licensee will be allowed to sell liquor across the counter or on their premise.
A decision in this regard was taken by the Excise Department of Odisha. However, no counter sale of liquor will be allowed, Excise Commissioner Anjan Kumar Manik said.
The additional revenue generated from liquor sales would go towards the treatment of coronavirus positive patients and other related activities, Manik added.
The home delivery will be done through retailers and food aggregators, standard technology platforms, delivery service providers, who are acting as retail aggregators.
