The state-run oil marketing companies slashed the prices of petrol and diesel by 15-24 paise across the metros on September 15, i.e. Tuesday. In Delhi, the prices of petrol were slashed to Rs 81.55 from Rs 81.72 per litre and diesel rates were cut to Rs 72.56 from Rs 72.78 per litre, according to notifications by the state-run Indian Oil Corporation, the country’s largest fuel retailer. In Mumbai, the prices of petrol were reduced to Rs 88.21 from Rs 88.38 per litre and diesel prices were lowered to Rs 79.05 from Rs 79.29 per litre. Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation review petrol and diesel rates in different parts of the country on a daily basis, and implement any revisions at fuel pumps with effect from 6 am. The three account for the majority of fuel stations in the country.
Meanwhile, oil prices inched lower on Tuesday as a bleaker outlook for global fuel demand prompted fresh selling, but short-covering ahead of a meeting later this week of OPEC and its allies, known as OPEC+, limited losses.
Brent crude was down 3 cents, or 0.1 per cent, at $39.58 a barrel by 0102 GMT, reversing earlier gains. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures were down 2 cents, or 0.1 per cent, at $37.24 a barrel.
